Democracy! Sometimes it feels so pointless. But before you decide to skip next election, consider this: a race in the Virginia House of Delegates was decided by a single vote.
On Tuesday, the results of a recount by Virginia election officials was announced, and it turns out Democrat Shelly Simonds beat incumbent Republican David Yancey. The vote count? 11,608 to 11,607.
Yep. One single vote.
The dude who sat at home watching Netflix instead of voting probably feels pretty bad right about now.
Not only did Simonds win by a single vote, but her win ended 17 years of Republican control of the Virginia State House. It’s now split evenly between the two parties.
