Master of None “Thanksgiving” was more than just one of the best television episodes of 2017. The episode, co-written by Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe, was a triple threat — a complex and beautiful story about women, people of color, and a fully-formed LGBTQ+ protagonist.

Which made its Emmy win Sunday night that much sweeter.

Waithe is the first black woman ever to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (Donald Glover was the first black man to win for Directing a Comedy Series earlier in the same evening).

In her speech, Waithe spoke directly to her LGBTQ+ family, saying “I see you, I see all of you” and urging love, acceptance and support (Ansari, who won last year, stood aside and let her do the talking).

The win even garnered a standing ovation — the second in the night after a 9 to 5 reunion with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton.
